Man United 2-0 Everton: Ill Discipline Costs The Toffees!

Published by CM22ENT on

The reverse fixture between Manchester United and Everton in November sparked to life through Alejandro Garnacho’s extraordinary acrobatic finish. Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial completed scoring at Goodison Park afterwards.

Following their points deduction being reduced from 10 to six, Everton stood in a much healthier 15th place, but are far from being removed from the hungry drop zone. Sean Dyche emphasised the importance of his team creating chances and being clinical once presented with them. Easier said than done, especially for a side now winless in 10 league fixtures.

Beto scored Everton’s only goal in their 3-1 defeat against West Ham United last weekend.

Manchester United on the other hand had derby day heartbreak to eradicate from their systems. Erik ten Hag continues to look into the future, hoping that small margins were to be on his side this weekend.

At times, this Manchester United team in possession are like fragile glass that falls to ground. Breakage or breakdowns in this case are almost inevitable. Same precedent set early in this matchup. Careless passes, instigating sticky scenarios that the Toffees weren’t quite ready to take advantage of.

Those early ventures forward were cruelly punished on the other end as Garnacho once again haunted his opponents by winning a penalty. A simple shift to the right hand side was enough for Everton Captain James Tarkowski to bite, and miss everything but the Argentinians leg. Bruno Fernandes converted said spot kick, meaning that Sean Dyche’s side would have to overcome an unfriendly statistic to end up victorious. They haven’t won a league game after conceding first this campaign.

Bruno Fernandes equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy for Premier League penalties scored at Old Trafford (12) by a United player.

Despite the major setback, it was an away performance that seemed much more assured in comparison to United’s typical miscalculations. Squandered chances on both sides, but another defensive mistake by Ben Godfrey this time resulted in a second penalty kick that was dispatched by Marcus Rashford. Scorer of last weekend’s thunderbolt against Manchester City.

Two takers, two makers. Everton deceived by the directness of Garnacho, mixed in with an element of ill discipline. Mistakes that tend to be fatal more times than not.

Rashford makes no mistake from the penalty spot to double Manchester United’s lead.

The second half in Manchester didn’t quite carry over the pizzazz energy wise at least. Everton’s pursuit for just one goal amounted to endless failures, while United also were wasteful with their chances to add more misery for Jordan Pickford’s trip home. A game that most definitely could’ve been so much more for his side. The Toffees created chances a plenty, but lived up to their record of being the worst team when it comes to conversions this season in the Premier League.

Despite coming away with all three points, Manchester United themselves can’t be covered in glory with another questionable performance that continues the 10 game streak of conceding 15 or more shots. Control is severely lacking to say the least.
