Man United 1-1 Burnley: Stumbling Across The Finish Line!

Published by CM22ENT on

Today’s task for the rather erratic Manchester United poses another relegation candidate in Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. The Clarets will need every point in a battle to escape every team’s worst nightmare. The dreaded drop zone. While Everton surge closer to safety, it will be Nottingham Forest being closely hawk eyed by those in desperation to make sure their trips to the promised land won’t only be one and done.

United’s build up prior to this tea time fixture had been full of conversation as it always seems to be. Marcus Rashford, unavailable for this game, engaged in a condemnation of what he and many online deem as abuse towards the English international. What are your notions given many shortcomings in comparison to his 30 goal campaign last season?

Burney’s talents on ball were highlighted as they returned to the top flight, and while things have certainly had to change over the course of this season, they were able to produce many moments against this Manchester United team where on another day, we’d be deliberating about Kompany’s side’s brilliant performance.

At Old Trafford it was Andre Onana who was called into action mostly due to strikes from the likes of Wilson Odoburt and a threatening 1v1 against Lyle Foster. Quite the way to bounce back after what could’ve been a moral flattening mistake against Sheffield United on Wednesday.

The home side themselves curated chances on occasion, with Bruno Fernandes smashing Arijanet Muric’s goal post. Alejandro Garnacho and Antony also were presented with notable opportunities but failed to appease those attending in red and white. Frustrations continued as this former giant of English football flounders to a finish line where future outcomes for all parties remain unclear.

The second half for both teams told tales of chance after chance, with little to no benefit. One where the simplest of mistakes would end up being detrimental to either pursuit of success. Unfortunately for Sander Berge, his back pass lacked true aim and precision as Antony pounced and dispatched to give Manchester United an all important lead. Safe to say it had been a long time coming for the Brazilian. Finally a dance in which his footwork was exemplary.

It wasn’t to be a fairy tale ending however, with Andre Onana committing the crime nobody asked of him due to the time in which his clumsy clattering of Zeki Amdouni took place. Another penalty kick conceded, with the aforementioned substitute making no mistake. Calm, composed and clinical.

As was the theme of this second period, both outfits desperately lunged to purloin all three points but ended up being stifled by final execution, and sharp enough goalkeeping. Burnley remain second bottom with three games remaining, while Manchester United now have Newcastle methodically ready to sneak attack after their comeback victory against Sheffield United. One point now separates Erik ten Hag and Eddie Howe’s respective sides.
